Paid Parental Benefit

Your Time Away includes a Paid Parental Benefit (PPB) that pays eligible employees 50% of their base salary for up to six weeks related to the birth or placement of a child.

Who is eligible?

  • Employees who have three months of continuous UTSW service who have a birth of a child or placement of a child (adoption or foster care) are eligible.

Are there additional considerations?

  • Employees must first use 480 hours of their prior sick leave bank (if available) plus either 40 hours of PTO, floating holiday time, or their prior vacation leave bank.
  • Eligible employees may use applicable leave accruals, concurrently with PPB, for the remaining 50% of their pay.
  • Eligible employees may use PPB concurrently with short-term or long-term disability plans as permitted by those plans.
  • PPB shall run concurrently with State Parental Leave or leave pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave Act, as applicable.
  • Eligible employees (either or both parents) can receive a maximum of six weeks of reduced Paid Parental Benefit.

Effective Oct. 1, 2024

To use the new Paid Parental Benefit (PPB), please follow the below instructions:

Process:

  • No application is necessary. All employees who are on an approved FMLA Leave or State Parental Leave for the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child will be automatically considered for Paid Parental Benefits.
  • HR’s Leave Administration team will review the leave circumstances and notify the employee if they qualify for PPB.
