Triple Board Program
The UT Southwestern Triple Board Program trains diverse physician leaders and prepares them to treat and advocate for the most complex child and adolescent patients with co-occurring and intertwined physical and mental health problems.
Triple board training provides synergistic training experiences that reinforce general principles and allow residents to work within multiple systems (learn more about triple board training).
Our rich and diverse patient population and myriad of sub-specialty programming affords residents experience in caring for unique patient populations in hospital-based and community settings and prepares them to manage even the most challenging cases.
Our program accepts 4 residents each year.
The residency includes:
- 2 years of pediatrics
- 18 months of general psychiatry
- 18 months of child and adolescent psychiatry
Graduates of the Triple Board Program are board-eligible in all three disciplines and are prepared to practice in any one of them.
The training experiences enable graduates to provide complex care in integrated and collaborative care settings across the lifespan.
The first two years of the Triple Board Program focus on the development of pediatric skills and allow for full integration with the cohort of pediatric residents.

"My interest for the Triple Board Program stems from my passion for the interplay between medical and psychiatric diagnoses. I was drawn to the idea of providing holistic, comprehensive care for children in my community with increasing medical complexity. Through this program, I have cultivated a skill set that empowers me to not only diagnose and treat physical conditions but also to address the psychological and emotional aspects that influence a child's well-being. By obtaining general psychiatry training, I can appreciate the long-term impact of childhood trauma and the importance of early intervention in changing health trajectories. With the unique training opportunities provided by UT Southwestern, I am fortunate to follow my passion for trauma-focused care within the Continuity Clinic of the Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence. I love seeing the tremendous growth and resilience our patients embody over the course of our time together. These unique experiences allow me to provide the best possible care to young patients and their families, fostering both their physical and mental health throughout pivotal stages of development."
