Miguel Cantu

Dr. Miguel Dario Cantu, MD is a hematopathologist and molecular pathologist at the University of Texas Southwestern where he serves as Assistant Professor of Pathology and Hematopathology Course Director for medical school and and pathology residency courses at UTSW. Dr. Cantu is a native of the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas Pan-American with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He completed his medical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston’s McGovern Medical School with a scholarly concentration in Molecular and Translational Medicine (2012-2016). He completed an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at New York Presbyterian – Weill Cornell in New York City (2016-2020) where he served as Assistant Chief Resident and Chief Resident of Anatomic Pathology. He pursued additional fellowship training in Hematopathology at New York Presbyterian—Weill Cornell (2020-2021) followed by a Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern (2021-2022). Dr. Cantu is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Hematopathology, and Molecular Genetic Pathology. His clinical research interests include the study of the molecular pathogenesis of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms with a particular interest in immunodeficiency-associated lymphoproliferative disorders. During his training, Dr. Cantu was a 2021 ASCP 40 Under 40 honoree and received the 2022 Pathologist-in-Training Award from the Society for Hematopathology and the Dr. Janet Caldwell Fellow Research Award for his work studying therapy-related myeloid neoplasms.
