Medical Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship

The one-year Medical Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship provides advanced training and one-on-one mentorship to physicians who aim to stay abreast of the latest in technologic advancements in the diagnosis and management of neuro-ophthalmic conditions. The program is open to applicants who have completed residency training in either ophthalmology or neurology.

The fellowship is tailored to the physician’s previous training and future interests in clinical practice and academic research. We offer protected time for trainees to conduct clinical research with the expectation that they will publish their work by the end of their fellowship year. This unique opportunity allows trainees to fully engage with weekly didactics and work with mentors and other clinical faculty in multiple subspecialties. The fellow will approach teaching residents and medical students from a multi-disciplinary background (neurology, ophthalmology, psychiatry, emergency medicine) and help form collaborative working relationships with specialties across UT Southwestern.

The fellow’s activities will include clinical patient care specific to the diagnosis and management of a broad range of neuro-ophthalmologic disorders, as well as participation in clinical trial research. The fellow will conduct their own clinical research with guidance from a mentor and attend/present at the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS) annual meeting.

Affiliated hospitals part of the Medical Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship program include Parkland Hospital, Children’s Medical Center, and John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

All clinics are fully equipped with advanced technology, including Humphrey visual field analyzers, Heidelberg Retina Tomography, and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
