Employee Benefits

Employees learn about their benefits through customized group and individual education sessions, at which the unique aspects of the benefits available for employees of the State and institutions of higher education in Texas are discussed.

Participation in a retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is mandatory for regular employees. Faculty members and postdoctoral scholars paid a salary alternatively may participate in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP). The choice must be made within 30 days of employment or the plan selection will default to TRS. In addition to the TRS or ORP Retirement plans, all employees may participate in the UTSaver TSA 403(b) and/or the UTSaver DCP 457(b) retirement programs.

Your Own Lab Website

UT Southwestern has recently launched a new online community dedicated to research labs (http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/labs/). Accessible from both utsouthwestern.edu and MyUTSW, the new website takes advantage of the strength of the utsouthwestern.edu URL to increase Google rankings for every lab website housed within.

Lab websites can now be quickly found either by Google search or through the onsite alphabetical browser and search functions. With the ability to find and see all UT Southwestern lab websites, potential students and postdocs can more readily find research that appeals to them. As a result, this community plays a key role in UT Southwestern’s recruitment efforts.

There is no cost to your lab to create a website within the Labs community. In addition, training is available if you would like to maintain your own lab website(s). The training course is also free.

Faculty and/or representatives from labs who do not currently have a lab website are invited to contact the web content team by emailing web@utsouthwestern.edu.
