Humans of Parkland
Our Vision
- To create a campaign we could share with both the UTSW/Parkland community and the Dallas community about the true patients of Parkland Hospital (not the various stereotypes or perceptions some may have)
- To introduce medical students to the idea of getting to know a patient as a whole person, and helping them see the person behind the chief complaint, lab values, and medical history.
Getting To Know Our Patients
- What is one of your favorite traits about yourself?
- What motivates you to keep fighting for health?
- What activities bring you the most joy?
Teaching Students About Patient Stories
Each session is led by GHHS members, and a small group of pre-clerkship students is invited to attend the patient visit, where the focus is on learning about the patient's story, not just their medical condition.
Inspiring Others
Our patient interviews are displayed on posters outside the Parkland cafeteria to promote a sense of solidarity, hospitality, and hope among patients, families, and staff.
