Finance
UT Southwestern's Office of the Provost Finance team ensures the financial integrity of the university's resources by providing oversight of the budgeting and financial management processes that closely align with Business Affairs and the Health System. The Finance team also serves in a front-line capacity to all finance-related inquiries about policies, procedures, and best practices.
Our Services
The Finance team takes a key leadership role in several critical areas including:
- Providing financial oversight to the various schools within Academic Affairs
- Managing the annual budgeting process for the academic and administrative departments
- Administering Dean's commitments in accordance with the approved faculty letter of intent (LOI)
- Assisting the Provost and Vice Provosts with the execution of strategic initiatives
- Providing financial and analytical support to the Provost, Vice Provosts, Deans, and various schools/departments
- Representing the Provost to offices outside of Academic Affairs
- Creating financial transparency via monthly and ad hoc reporting
- Administering funding requests
- Collaborating with Faculty Affairs in reviewing new and existing faculty appointments, which entails financial review of the new hire summary (NHS) form for appropriate funding expectations
- Distributing information on policies and procedures as required
In partnership with our customers, the Finance team participates in approving a wide array of financial and HR-related transactions within the academic/administrative departments, including OneCard transactions, payment requests, vouchers, requisitions, expense reports, travel authorizations, position changes, new position requests, and additional pay. We also review and submit requests for new departments, project IDs, activity IDs, and more via the Master Data Management (MDM) committee.
