The CDRC launches new, federally-funded studies to address cocaine addiction, for which there are currently no FDA approved treatments. Learn more about our substance abuse trials here.

Since 2016, the CDRC has provided the YAM program in over 67 middle and high schools and impacting more than 20,000 students. Responding to the program's overwhelming success, the CDRC has transitioned to training additional facilitators to reach more students across Texas. Learn more here.

Dr. Trivedi and his team released to the general public a research-driven web-based tool that guides users in measuring and monitoring their depression symptoms, level of social functioning, quality of life, and lifestyle and health behaviors. Developed over multiple years, the tool offers suggestions and tips for improving depression and related sympoms and provides a dashboard where users an observe and track symptoms over time. In collaboration with Children's Health, the CDRC is studying 50 adolescents with suicidal behaviors to learn if there are biological markers for suicide. The study is part of an evidence-based, intensive outpatient program focused on reducing risk for self harm and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, known as SPARC. Learn more here.

In addition to leading work on depression, UT Southwestern is one of 18 national nodes for the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network, which collaboratively develops, validates, refines, and delivers new treatment options for addiction. Through the EMBARC study, the CDRC looked for ways to improve treatments for depression by analyzing patterns in brain activity in response to emotional conflict. Researchers are able to use fMRIs and brain-based markers to tailor specific treatments to individual patients with depression, improving recovery.

Dr. Trivedi and his fellow researchers published the first significant manuscript describing the TX-YDSRN program's design and initial data on the first 300 participants.

In 2019, the CDRC opened a new study location at Moncrief Cancer Institute, an affiliate of UT Southwestern located in the Fort Worth Medical District. The site broadened the geographic scope of the T-RAD program in Tarrant County, enrolling more than 50 people within months of opening. Throughout 2020, more than 800 participants engaged in biweekly virtual mental health check-ins to enable us to measure and address issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
