DREAM Internship Program
Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center is committed to the development of the next generation of scientists by offering opportunities and connections to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue scientific careers in cancer research.
The Designing Research Experiences and Mentoring (DREAM) Internship Program, a 10-week summer internship program funded by the American Cancer Society, will create a broad experience for enriching the interests, knowledge, and connections of and among undergraduate students as they explore different areas of cancer research. The program includes:
- Mentored Research Experiences tailored to meet needs and capture the interests of individual scholars.
- Formal Curriculum taught by Cancer Center members on concepts and fields in cancer research.
- Social Activities and Peer Mentorship to connect trainees, creating a sense of belonging and community.
- Career Development and Networking opportunities with insights into the variety of potential scientific paths and linking to colleagues and mentors for the future.
It's anticipated that exposure to research in the SCCC at UT Southwestern will encourage scholars to pursue careers in STEM fields, ideally performing paradigm-shifting cancer research in basic, translational, clinical, and prevention arenas, as well as new directions in cancer research in the future.
The DREAM Internship Program will take place June 3 – August 9, 2024. The application process is currently closed.
