What tools are available for securely collecting and storing research data?

Use of appropriate data capture and storage tools will maximize protection of research subjects, limit access to only study team members with appropriate approvals and data responsibilities, and facilitate required documentation (e.g., data dictionary, audit trails) for data changes and access.

We offer two options for secure collection and storage of research data.

Velos eResearch

Velos eResearch is a comprehensive electronic clinical research management system (CRMS) that allows monitoring of several aspects of clinical research involving study and participant management in a secured and HIPAA-compliant manner.

In addition to participant registration and electronic data capture (EDC) using electronic case report forms (eCRFs), Velos eResearch supports the creation of study protocol calendars, coverage analysis, and creation of accurate budgets.

REDCap

REDCap is a self-managed, secure, web-based solution that supports sophisticated data collection strategies for research studies.

This tool provides functionality and features enabling researchers to rapidly develop databases for collecting and managing research data. Data can be entered by research staff directly, by participants via surveys (locally or remotely), or from the electronic health record.
