Special Stains
The Histo Pathology Core offers a wide menu of special stains for improving visualization of normal and disease state chemical moieties.
Special Stains that the Core performs on a routine schedule include Oil Red-O stain for neutral lipids, Masson's Trichrome stain for collagen/fibrosis, Periodic-Acid Schiff for sugars and basement membrane, as well as Hart's variation of the Verhoeff Van Gieson's technique for elastin.
Optimum staining for some substances requires a specific fixation or detailed procedure. If you are unsure of the specifics needed for your experiment, please contact the lab prior to tissue collection.
