Peer Advocates
This program provides confidential support to fellow students who are struggling with both school and non-school-related challenges. Through this program, struggling students can reach out to a peer advocate for assistance and resources with personal issues that could include:
- Academic struggles
- Career planning
- Burnout
- Relationship problems
- Financial issues
- Family problems
- Health problems
- General life stressors
All Peer Advocates have been trained in Mental Health First Aid. Peer advocates can also provide information about other available resources or interventions.
How to reach us
All participation in the peer advocate program is voluntary. To meet with a peer advocate, students can come to weekly office hours. Information on office hours is sent out weekly through email. If the office hours do not work, you can fill out this form to request a meeting with a peer advocate. Discussions with peer advocates are confidential and peer advocates will not take any notes or create any records. It may take up to 24 hours to receive a response from the peer advocates email account. If this is an emergency, please call the Student Wellness and Counseling phone number: 214-645-8680. This number also serves as the UTSW 24-hour crisis line after 5 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends and holidays.
