International DPT Students
International students are an important part of our Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at UT Southwestern. If you are an international student submitting an application, here are some important tips to remember:
Academic Prerequisites
You’ll need to complete all of the program prerequisites, even if you’ve earned a medical degree in another country.
Transcripts
Submit original transcripts from each college or university attended to PTCAS. Please keep copies of the transcripts.
Transcript Evaluations
An independent evaluation of your transcripts is required if you received your degree from a university outside of the United States. The evaluation should include subject breakdown, semester credit hours, and grade for each undergraduate course. For the transcript evaluation, contact:

Language Proficiency Exams
International applicants whose native language is not English must submit Language Proficiency Exam scores. We accept the following test scores – TOEFL iBT, TOEFL Essentials, IELTS, and DuoLingo. Applicants whose education medium of instruction is English but in a non-English-speaking country must still submit Language Proficiency Exam scores.
While there are no minimum score requirements, competitive scores are typically equivalent to a TOEFL iBT score of 100 or above.
Our Institutional code is 6686. No departmental code is needed.
Visas and Immigration
UT Southwestern’s International Affairs Office has a host of resources for international students and can provide additional information about visas and immigration.
Licensure for International Students
International students also may need to meet special requirements before they can be licensed as physical therapists in Texas. Check with the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners for more details.
