Resident Clinical Educator Track
Teaching is an art of its own. This track paves the way for you to become a proficient clinician-educator by providing you with a skillset and portfolio. You will have the opportunity to become versed in learning theory, polish your skills as an educator, and develop a scholarly project in medical education. Faculty will mentor you to develop your career path.
Postgraduate Year 1: Information Session During Boot Camp
- Learn about the program during the final month of PGY-1 which provides a dedicated introduction to neurology (known as Boot Camp) and let the the course director, Mishu Chandra, M.D., know of your interest.
Postgraduate Year 2: Learning the Learning Theory (Residents as Learners)
- Fill out applications at the beginning of PGY2.
- Pre-self-assessment to determine your confidence and comfort with medical teaching and identifying areas of opportunity.
- Complete a formal medical education online course- during Fall/Winter (self-paced).
- Workshops taught by mentors with differing styles of teaching- during Spring
- Journal clubs, conferences, morning/afternoon reports.
Postgraduate Year 3: See One, Teach One (Residents as Teachers)
- Opportunities to lead small group sessions/seminars for medical students.
- Give lectures on core curricula (The Brain and Behavior course, SIGN lectures) with feedback from mentors and peers.
- Creation of sub-specialty curricula for medical students during neurology rotations (feedback from fellows).
- Brainstorming and proposal of medical education project with mentor.
Postgraduate Year 4: Contribution and Career Development (Residents as Contributors)
- Implementation of medical education project.
- Reflection and outcomes on impact of medical project.
- Seminars on career development in medical education led by faculty mentors
- Post-self-assessment to determine how the course and track have impacted your confidence and comfort with medical teaching.
