PROPEL Fellowship

The Post-Baccalaureate Research in Oncology Program for Experimental Learning (PROPEL) Fellowship, funded by the American Cancer Society (ACS), seeks to develop learners from diverse backgrounds in science to help them build fundamental research skills. The scholars will have an opportunity to network while preparing for the rigors of graduate or medical training and obtain the experience to make a successful transition into the cancer research workforce. The two-year program is designed to equip students interested in biomedical science and who have recently completed undergraduate degrees to compete for and obtain a Ph.D. or M.D.

Scholars will be matched, based on their interests, with a faculty mentor who is conducting world-class cancer research. Scholars will conduct independent research related to the lab’s ongoing projects and will be mentored by a team of faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students.

It is anticipated that exposure to research in the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center will encourage PROPEL Fellows to pursue careers in STEM fields, ultimately performing paradigm-shifting cancer research in basic, translational, clinical, and prevention arenas, as well as new directions in cancer research in the future.

The PROPEL Fellowship will run from August 19, 2024 – August 18, 2026. Scholars will receive a competitive annual stipend with benefits. Applications are due July 12, 2024.
