Eligibility Criteria
High School Students
- Must currently be working on a school project relating to the medical field. Must supply a letter from his/her professor endorsing and outlining the project and written on school letterhead AND
- Participating in the Dallas Mayor’s program OR
- Participating in Health Science Tech High School OR
- High school symposia and affiliation agreements (required)
- Must be 18 or older
Undergraduate Students
- Must currently be working on a school project relating to the medical field. Must supply a letter from his/her professor endorsing and outlining the project and written on school letterhead.
- Participating in UTSW Stars Summer Research program
- UTA Engineering Boot Camp/Capstone Project
- UT PACT, UT SHAPE JAMP accelerated undergraduate/medical school combined programs, which is conducted via Student Affairs Department
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
Medical Students
- Must be a currently enrolled UTSW medical student or UTSW graduate student
Residents/Fellows
- Must be in a UTSW residency/fellowship program. Non-UTSW residents/fellows must have a PLA Agreement Letter in place, which can take up to 120 days
- Observership not considered
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
Graduates of a Medical School
- Must have completed a residency or fellowship program AND
- Must be requesting a case-specific observation from local physicians for a single case OR
- Must be a U.S. physician seeking additional training, formalized under CME that is not in place
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
International Graduates of a Medical School
To be considered applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must have completed a residency or fellowship program AND
- Must be fluent in the English language
- Must be affiliated with UTSW designated sister institute OR
- Must be a physician at UTSW for a clinic fellowship research OR
- Must be a physician who completed specialty or subspecialty training OR
- Must be formalized under the Global Health Initiative, currently not in place OR
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
- Must have a faculty sponsor
- Must have a valid Visa
International Applicants
To be considered applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be fluent in the English language
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
- Must be formalized under the Global Health Initiative, currently not in place
- Must have a faculty sponsor
- Must have a valid Visa
UTSW Employees
- Special approval required by the Office of Human Resources as part of higher education program
- Can observe for up to three days
Family Members of UTSW Employees
- High school students wanting to shadow in the OR or procedural areas are required to get approval by surgical services
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
Advance Practice Practitioners Students
- Special approval required for clinical rotations; observerships not considered
- Please contact the Office of Advanced Practice to coordinate a clinical rotation
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
Others
- Must be conducting/participating in clinical or translational research OR
- Must be requested by other hospitals to send their team for training
- Must have up-to-date immunization records including a negative TB test within last 12 months
