Eligibility

An applicant must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to an ACGME-accredited residency program:

  1. Graduated from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or
  2. Graduated from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or
  3. Graduated from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada, and meets one of the following additional qualifications:
    1. Holds a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to appointment or
    2. Holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in his/her current ACGME specialty/subspecialty program or
    3. Has graduated from a medical school outside the United States and has completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school

We do not accept applications from non-ECFMG medical school graduates. We welcome natural and naturalized U.S. citizens, green card holders, permanent residents, and current J-1 Visa holders.

Adhering to the Texas Medical Board rules and regulations, eligible applicants must:

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Have completed medical school or a Fifth Pathway program
  • Have already been accepted into a training program

 Applicants are ineligible if:

  • A medical license, permit, or other authority to practice medicine is/has been restricted/canceled/suspended/revoked or subject to discipline by a state or territory of the United States, Canada, or uniformed services of the United States.
  • An investigation or proceeding pending for the restriction, cancellation, suspension, revocation, or other discipline of the medical license, permit, or authority to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States, a province of Canada, or a uniformed service of the United States.
  • A prosecution pending in any state, federal, or Canadian court for any offense that under the laws of this state is a felony, a misdemeanor that involves the practice of medicine, or a misdemeanor that involves a crime of moral turpitude.
