Monthly Rotations
Fellows rotate monthly, covering the inpatient service at UT Southwestern's Clements University Medical Center, inpatient service at Parkland Health and Hospital, and the operating room at Parkland. Rotations are organized so fellows can follow post-operative patients in the clinic setting.
Our multidisciplinary team involves vascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery.
While at Clements, fellows manage the admitted patients and their surgical needs and see post-op patients in the Parkland clinics 3 times per week. The average inpatient volume is 15 patients.
While at Parkland, fellows run the team which consists of a physician assistant, two wound techs, and a pedorthist. The average inpatient volume is 40 patients.
While in the OR, fellows perform surgeries with attending oversight. The average caseload per week is 30 cases.
Weekly Academic Meetings
One peer-reviewed journal article is discussed per week, chosen to illustrate a statistical or clinical theme to practice critical appraisal.
Fellows present cases and skills to the group. Each fellow will perform their own retrospective study under the guidance of the attendings. They will plan the project, collect data, perform analysis of the data, and present at a conference before writing a full paper.
Guest speakers are invited to present lectures pertaining to the treatment of our patients.
