The General Neurology and Headache Medicine section is an academic leader that embodies the core missions of the Department of Neurology, including excellence in patient care and the promotion of education.
Our faculty members are nationally recognized for their contributions to aviation neurology and addressing healthcare disparities in headache medicine. They strive to create a personalized treatment plan for patients.
General Neurology Faculty
Our General Neurology team consists of ten physicians whose expertise includes comprehensive neurology, aviation neurology, headaches, facial pain, and concussions. Our experts lead several specialty clinics and collaborate with leaders in their subspecialties. In addition to seeing over 7500 patients on the main campus, faculty also see patients at four other regional sites. Our nationally recognized aerospace program assesses over one hundred pilots annually, certifying them as "fit to fly."
Headache Medicine Faculty
The Headache Medicine faculty, comprising three individuals, is committed to enhancing clinical care, education, and research. They treat a full spectrum of complex headache disorders, enriching the clinical exposure of our trainees. The faculty are recognized for their expertise in facial pain and in addressing health care disparities.

Headache Medicine Fellowship Track
General Neurology Subspecialty Clinics
Beyond providing multidisciplinary care for patients with the full range of general neurological disorders, our faculty leads a subspecialty aerospace neurology clinic, a dedicated neurohospitalist service, and collaborative consultative services.
Headache Medicine Subspecialty Clinics
In addition to providing comprehensive care to patients with complex headache disorders, faculty lead two subspecialty clinics: facial pain and Parkland Health Headache Medicine clinic. The headache medicine clinic at Parkland, one of the largest safety net hospitals in the nation, is geared towards providing care to an underserved community where headache specialty care is sparse. Residents and fellows are also involved in this clinic and learn to manage various headache disorders and perform procedures.
Research
Physicians within the General Neurology and Headache Medicine section conduct observational studies and quality improvement research.
Education & Training
Our headache medicine fellowship training program is designed to provide intensive clinical exposure in a broad range of settings. Trainees work alongside faculty members who have extensive knowledge of these disorders. They gain exposure to a wide array of headache disorders and patient populations as they work in both the UT Southwestern clinics and Parkland clinics. A Headache Medicine Fellowship Lecture series is also conducted throughout the year with various speakers from different departments at UT Southwestern contributing lectures on their specialties, including oral and maxillofacial surgery, psychology, pediatrics, and a variety of neurologists. The program is designed to provide our trainees with time to reflect, engage in scholarly activities through the American Headache Society (AHS) and Miles for Migraine, and connect with professional peers. Fellows are also trained in administering botulinum toxin injections and nerve block procedures.
Our Reach Within the Community
We participate in Miles for Migraine each year, which raises awareness within the community and connects patients to support groups, education programs, and more. Funds raised partly support UT Southwestern's Headache Fellowship Program. Additionally, we are integrally involved in educating patients and providing advocacy training for fellows.
