What stood out about your research experience at UT Southwestern, and how did it shape your career?

I appreciate the opportunity to pursue questions and implement innovative interventions that improve patient outcomes, particularly for underserved populations. This experience has reinforced my passion for research that drives meaningful change in healthcare.

How did participating in the Seldin Symposium impact your research path?

The Seldin Symposium was one of my first opportunities to present my research at a conference, where I received invaluable feedback from faculty. The validation, support, and mentorship I gained from faculty made the experience enriching as a trainee.

How did your work at Parkland address a specific challenge in patient care delivery or medical education?

Our study focused on identifying key social determinants of health that impact underserved patients with heart failure. By highlighting these factors, we aimed to identify opportunities for future interventions that could enhance care delivery and patient outcomes.

What are your current research interests and goals?

I am continuing my training at UT Southwestern as a clinical and research fellow with the Cardiometabolic Research Unit in the Division of Cardiology. My goal is to build a career as a clinical investigator, focusing on research that bridges health disparities and improves outcomes for vulnerable populations.

What advice would you offer current Internal Medicine trainees about pursuing research?

Find a research area that excites you and connect with faculty members who are doing work in that field. UT Southwestern offers a range of research opportunities, and faculty are eager to mentor trainees. Identifying a niche that resonates with you will make your research experience more fulfilling and impactful.
