What stood out about your research experience at UT Southwestern, and how did it shape your career?
UT Southwestern has so many opportunities to get involved in research and the faculty are incredibly supportive. It has been wonderful to be at an institution that values research and encourages residents to be involved in meaningful research projects. My experiences with QI and health systems research in residency has been instrumental in helping me develop my career goals and interests.
How did participating in the Seldin Symposium impact your research path?
The Seldin Symposium was a wonderful opportunity for me to get constructive feedback on my research and encouragement to pursue research in the future. Presenting at Grand Rounds as a Foster Fellow was an exciting challenge that helped me gain more confidence in my abilities to present research and reinforced my interest in quality improvement and health systems projects.
What are your current research interests and goals?
My interests include health systems research. I want to work on projects that help improve health care delivery and access with a focus on high value care.
What advice would you offer current Internal Medicine trainees about pursuing research?
I recommend that all Internal Medicine trainees explore different types of projects as you never know what lessons you may learn and how it can impact your career goals! Finding good mentors is also key as you want to make sure you are adequately supported throughout the process.
