F-1 Student Travel
An F-1 student who plans on traveling outside the United States and then reentering the United States with F-1 status will need to bring the following documentation when they travel:
- Passport with expiration date at least six months into the future.
- Valid F-1 visa. If your visa is expired, you must apply for a visa renewal at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate abroad prior to being able to reenter the United States.
- I-20 with valid travel signature on the second page. For currently enrolled students, the signature is valid for one year. For students on OPT, the signature is valid for six months.
- Students on OPT will also need their EAD to reenter the United States.
Before traveling outside the United States, contact your immigration specialist for a travel request form. We prefer that you do this at least two weeks before you travel.
