How Can I Get Feedback for My K Award?
K Grant Writing Workshop
This workshop is designed to increase the likelihood of funding as you write or resubmit your K award. Attendees will be asked to write relevant sections of the grant for review at each session and turn in a completed grant at the conclusion of the workshop to take part in a mock study section.
- Dates: Feb. 27–May 15. Registrants will be polled to determine day and time preferences.
- Prerequisites: K award of any type under development or K award for resubmission
To apply, email your CV, letter of support from your mentor, and statement of interest and career goals (one page maximum) to Laurie Knox by Feb. 4. Notification of acceptance will be sent by Feb. 14.
How Can I Find Time to Write?
Writing Accountability Groups (WAGs) Bootcamp for Increasing Scholarly Activity
Overcome the obstacles of finding time to write and the intimidation of getting started. Developed by faculty members at Johns Hopkins to make scholarly writing a habit. The series includes six weekly sessions conducted over Zoom in which you will work on your own scholarly writing accompanied by individual and group accountability.
- Dates and times: Wednesdays beginning March 2 through April 13 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. via Zoom
- Prerequisites: Scholarly writing project to work on and a commitment to attend a minimum of five sessions.

How Do I Improve My Writing Skills?
These science-writing workshops led by the founder of BioScience Writers, Susan Marriott, Ph.D., will be held via Zoom once a month starting in March from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- High Impact Science Writing – March 10 This workshop will help you become a great scientific communicator by teaching you to write with clarity and brevity. You will learn fundamental tools to enable you to highlight the most important parts of your work and increase the impact of your science.
- Effective NIH Grant Writing – April 7 This workshop will teach you grant structure, the grant review process, and key elements of grantsmanship necessary to obtain funding. Specific focus includes NIH R grants as well as K- and F- fellowships.
- How to Write a Science Manuscript – May 12 This workshop will guide you through the full process of writing a scientific manuscript, from writing the first draft to manuscript submission and reviewer responses. Learn how to carefully optimize content, organization, and flow of your research findings to present your science in the best light.
Each workshop may be taken individually, but it is recommended to start with High Impact Science Writing. These three-hour workshops will be structured as follows: 90-minutes, 10-minute break, 90-minutes. The Zoom link and materials for each workshop will be provided in advance.
