New VPN feature to enhance security against cyberattacks
Information Security will enable a new security feature for computers connecting through a virtual private network (VPN) beginning Thursday, Aug. 26. This new feature will check for the presence of antivirus software, enhancing our security against ransomware and other cybercriminal attacks.
After Aug. 26, you may experience a brief delay of up to one minute while connecting to VPN from off campus. Update your computer’s VPN client if prompted.
Antivirus software is required on any computer used for UTSW business, including personal devices, per policy. The Information Security team recommends Sophos for UTSW devices and Sophos Home Premium for personal devices, which is available at no cost to UTSW staff, faculty and students.
