Emergency Department expands at Clements
The first phase of UT Southwestern’s Emergency Department (ED) expansion at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital has officially opened to the public, allowing us to serve more patients and improve patient flow through the ED.
“Part of the reason for the expansion was the unprecedented growth that we had. UT Southwestern and their hospitals were named the No. 1 hospital in Dallas, No. 2 in Texas,” said Dr. Carl Piel, Medical Director of the Emergency Department.
The expanded ED has added 12 new exam rooms, but there is more in store when the final stage of renovations are complete in summer 2020. At that point, the ED will have 63 total exam rooms, and will provide a 40 percent increase in patient capacity. The final phase will also include eight ED Super Track bays and three special infectious disease rooms. The coming changes will affect four existing ED exam rooms, ED Admissions, and potentially other areas adjacent to renovations – mostly limited to the ED.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes video tour of the new facility. For a look at the floor plan including the new ED exam beds and waiting rooms, please view this PDF.
