Rule it in, then rule it out: Recognize Sepsis Awareness Month this September
In 2011, the Sepsis Alliance designated September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Every September since, health care professionals have helped to save lives by raising awareness of the leading cause of deaths in U.S. hospitals – sepsis. According to the Sepsis Alliance, sepsis is "the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death."
One in three patients who die in U.S. hospitals have sepsis. This is a prime opportunity to focus on decreasing in hospital mortality.
Here at UTSW, we are on a mission to decrease sepsis mortality by focusing on early detection and treatment. We will be raising awareness of sepsis this month, visiting units with educational Q&A in the form of a game with candy and prizes. Watch for our cart and help share the message. Let’s put sepsis on the clock!
