Conflict of Interest (COI) statements due March 1
Each year, employees and faculty members of UT Southwestern Medical Center who are Covered Individuals must complete a Conflict of Interest (COI) Statement of Financial Interests. The 2019 Statement must be completed between Jan. 2-March 1. Access the eCOI system and your Statement of Financial Interests here.
Covered Individuals include:
- Anyone with a full or part-time faculty appointment
- Exempt employees (employees not eligible for overtime pay)
- All individuals involved in research (including students, trainees, and non-employees)
- Employees authorized to execute contracts on behalf of UT Southwestern
- Employees authorized to make single purchases valued at or above $15,000
- Medical students
Please see the Conflicts of Interest, Conflicts of Commitment, and Outside Activities ETH-104 policy for a full description of Covered Individuals. Covered Individuals will receive a notification from the eCOI system prompting them to submit their 2019 Statement.
Financial interests and outside activities that must be described in the annual Statement include but are not limited to:
- Consulting, speaking, or advisory/medical board service
- Service on any outside entity’s Board of Directors
- Ownership and/or investment interests in outside entities
- Intellectual property and certain licensing/royalty income
- Travel reimbursements received from outside entities
- Income from a part-time job
- Other income
Statements must be submitted even if a Covered Individual has no financial interests or outside activities to disclose.
New in 2019, CITI training is no longer required for COI. The Statement of Financial Interests now contains all relevant training. Once a Covered Individual completes and submits the Statement, no further training is required.
As a reminder, for outside activities such as consulting and part-time jobs, you must also gain approval from your immediate supervisor. Approval is requested by submitting an Outside Activities/Employment request.
