What’s in store for the next six years at UTSW?
If you’ve been at UT Southwestern awhile, you might be familiar with the institution’s Six-Year Plan. But maybe you’re new to campus, and haven’t heard the phrase before.
The Six-Year Plan is the document that helps us define our priorities and goals – a guiding force in UT Southwestern’s path forward that supports its mission.
The document, which gets an update every two years, is a rolling, strategic plan to track our progress on major initiatives and outline new priorities to achieve our goals in education, research, and clinical care.
The 2018-2024 Six-Year Plan is a collaborative effort and represents the input of multidisciplinary teams composed of more than 185 faculty members, students, and staff.
In even-numbered years, President Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky appoints select faculty, students, and staff to subcommittees that review progress, suggest key priorities for the next two fiscal years, prioritize institutional needs, and make recommendations on resource allocations.
These groups develop the Six-Year Plan for the next six years, with this year’s subcommittees addressing plans for 2018-2024. In this way, there is an ongoing review of the overarching document.
The 2018 update, approved by the President, is now available here: utsouthwestern.net/six-year-plan.
Key priorities of the 2018-2024 plan include:
- Developing an infrastructure for interdisciplinary data integration to enhance knowledge-sharing and collaboration opportunities in research
- Shifting even more toward patient-centric health care delivery, focusing less on volume and more on programmatic success
- Enhancing and reinventing clinical care delivery paradigms by using population health informatics and data on patient outcomes
- Expanding the Office of Medical Education into an Office of Education to allow a more robust support system for sharing academic resources
- Enhancing our presence as an active citizen in the global health community by expanding Office of Global Health efforts and partnerships with the creation of a new Global Health Institute
- Attracting and retaining the best talent to deliver the best care, conduct the best research, and provide the best education
