UT Southwestern offers scholar funding programs that provide financial resources, career guidance, and protected research time to facilitate the early career development of physician-scientists who have high potential to conduct clinical research and advance research science.
UTSW Clinical Research Funding Sources
- CTSA KL2 Clinical and Translational Research Scholars
This two-year program, part of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program, is designed for junior faculty who show great promise toward becoming successful, independently funded clinical and translational science investigators. Their salary is supported partially by the KL2 grant.
- Dean's Research Scholar Program
The Dean's Research Scholar Program is designed to provide a yearlong opportunity in basic, clinical, or translational research to highly qualified students with a well-designed research project proposal.
- Dean's Scholar in Clinical Research Program
The Dean's Scholar in Clinical Research program provides promising early career faculty with financial resources, career guidance, research training, and protected research time to facilitate their development as successful clinical physician scientists.
- Dedman Scholar Award
The Dedman Scholar Award is an endowment gifted by the Dedman Foundation that allows UT Southwestern to recruit promising early-career physicians to be mentored by senior clinicians and clinical scientists.
- Disease-Oriented Clinical Scholars (DOCS)
The Disease-Oriented Clinical Scholars (DOCS) Program facilitates the growth of state-of-the-art research in clinical departments at UT Southwestern.
- Endowed Scholars Program in Medical Science
The Endowed Scholars Program in Medical Science provides $1.2 million over four years to first-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors at UT Southwestern. Funded by private endowment, the program helps assure the successful launch of young and creative investigators entering both basic science and clinical departments.
- Frenkel Clinical Scholars Program
The Eugene P. Frenkel, M.D., Clinical Scholars Program provides select, recently recruited faculty at UT Southwestern with funding over four years to recruit and support new faculty members and promote enduring excellence in patient care in oncology.
- O'Donnell Brain Institute Scholar Programs
The Neural Scientist Training Program and the Clinical Neuroscience Scholars Program focus on the recruitment, education, mentorship, and retention of the brightest talent, reflecting a commitment to building our community, now and for the future.
- Texas Health Resources Clinical Scholars Program
The Texas Health Resources Clinical Scholars Program facilitates the recruitment, training, and development of outstanding clinician-researchers at UT Southwestern.
