Education & Training synthesizes rich offerings from the Office of Clinical Research, the Clinical and Translational Science Award program, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, the School of Public Health, and the School of Health Professions.
Degrees & Certificates
Provides students with the leadership, theoretical, and applied skills to design and lead multidisciplinary teams in clinical research. Working with their mentors, students learn about research design and analysis, biostatistics, research leadership, and scientific writing to accelerate their careers as clinical and translational researchers. The program also includes a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Science and courses may be taken ad hoc for those who desire less commitment.
Provides students with the interpersonal, cognitive, analytical, and applied skills needed to thrive in the field of health informatics. Students build on skills obtained through their previous education in medicine, health, computer science, or information technology, and gain knowledge from educators with firsthand knowledge of systems and system challenges.
Provides students with the skills needed to identify, predict, and address wide-scale health problems before they occur, and to quickly respond to public health emergencies as they arise. Curriculum includes programs in quantitative and data sciences, health systems sciences, implementation science, and health promotion.
Provides research training for graduate-level health care professionals aspiring to be independent clinician-investigators in academic institutions, government agencies, and the private sector. The program provides research training in patient-oriented research and clinically relevant basic/translational research for graduate-level health care professionals (requires a master’s degree).

To create and maintain a coordinated, comprehensive training and workforce development program in clinical and translational research for UT Southwestern researchers.
Mission
As a leading institution for clinical research, UT Southwestern invests in our research workforce via The Academy for Clinical Research Workforce Development, our institutional home for clinical and translational research training and development for all career stages.
The Academy for Clinical Research Workforce Development endeavors to:
- Create coordinated programs for the development of clinical and translational research coordinators, nurses and allied health professionals, medical students, residents, trainees, and faculty across their research career lifespan.
- Foster mentorship to build research communities among translational, clinical, and implementation scientists.
- Engage leaders across UT Southwestern, collaborating institutions, and community partners to use existing resources for workforce development and to collaborate on innovative programs.
- Support the diversity, equity, and inclusion mission of UT Southwestern by enhancing the recruitment, retention, and training of a diverse clinical research workforce.

Leverage ongoing career development programs and pilot awards through the CTSA Program for distribution to a greater faculty audience, including person-centered writing accountability groups, K and R grant development workshops, and career development programs.
