DALLAS – Jan. 24, 2020 – Leading attorney Jeffrey A. Chapman assumes the role of Chair of the President’s Advisory Board (PAB) at UT Southwestern Medical Center, following the conclusion of the three-year term of inaugural Chair Elizabeth “Lizzie” Horchow Routman. The President’s Advisory Board was established in 2017 to provide a valuable source of guidance in advancing UT Southwestern’s institutional mission and ambitious agenda.

As the new Chair, Mr. Chapman further deepens his longstanding commitment to UT Southwestern and the betterment of health in the Dallas community. He has served as a member of the President’s Advisory Board and as Chair of the Nominations Committee since the PAB’s inception. In addition to his PAB service and philanthropic support of UT Southwestern, he devoted more than a decade of service to UT Southwestern’s philanthropic partner, Southwestern Medical Foundation, as a former member of its Board of Trustees and Executive and Nominating committees.

Mr. Chapman is Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Global Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Group and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and is considered one of the top M&A lawyers in the country. Prestigious international ratings service Chambers Global Guide reports that Mr. Chapman “is described by peers as ‘the crème de la crème’ of the corporate legal world.”

“We are grateful for leaders like Jeff whose contributions to the President’s Advisory Board have provided invaluable input in expanding the Medical Center’s capacity to continue improving health care in our community, Texas, our nation, and the world,” said Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern, who holds the Philip O’Bryan Montgomery, Jr., M.D. Distinguished Presidential Chair in Academic Administration, and the Doris and Bryan Wildenthal Distinguished Chair in Medical Science. “Jeff has been a vital collaborator during the formation and initial three years of the President’s Advisory Board, and he is the perfect successor to our outstanding inaugural PAB Chair, Lizzie Routman. In the role of Chair, he will ensure that the PAB continues to offer ongoing, actionable input to ensure that UT Southwestern, already a vital community resource, remains dynamic, innovative, and attuned and responsive to the myriad health needs of the North Texas community.”

The President’s Advisory Board provides President Podolsky and Medical Center senior leaders with guidance on the opportunities and challenges UT Southwestern faces across all three parts of its mission – education, discovery, and healing. Board members have both a voice and a platform as UT Southwestern’s advocates for population health issues, standard-bearers for clinical excellence, and proponents for scientific breakthroughs. The PAB convenes three times per year to lend its expertise in support of UT Southwestern’s mission and goals.

“I’m honored to serve UT Southwestern in this capacity,” Mr. Chapman said. “There is no institution of greater importance to our community’s welfare and no finer leader in the Dallas-Fort Worth area than UT Southwestern’s President, Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky.”
