2018 Medical Student Awards
Congratulations to the 238 members of the UT Southwestern Medical School Class of 2018, who received their degrees at Commencement exercise Friday, June 1, at the Morton H. Myerson Symphony Center. Earlier that day, the traditional Hooding Ceremony took place at the Tom and Lula Gooch Auditorium on campus.
The 2018 Class includes several veterans, including a U.S. Army veteran who served as a medic for seven years and a U.S. Air Force veteran with three deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq; several students who helped redesign the Biomedical Education track; a founding editor-in-chief for a global health magazine; another who co-authored and illustrated a surgical textbook; brothers who immigrated from Nigeria, became nurses, and are both entering orthopedics; and a graduate who founded a student organization dedicated to domestic violence awareness.
Special honors went to several of the medical students in recognition of exemplary academic, clinical, or research efforts. Here you will find stories on those graduates.
