Recognize cyber scams
Attacks from cybercriminals often start with a phishing email or text. To keep you and our institution protected, please remember scammers often:
- Pretend to be from a familiar organization or agency such as the Social Security Administration or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Mention a problem or a prize to lure you in
- Include attachments with official-looking logos, seals, signatures, or pictures of employee credentials in their emails
- Pressure you to act immediately and may even threaten you with arrest or legal action
- Tell you to pay using a gift card, prepaid debit card, cryptocurrency, wire or money transfer, or by mailing cash
Report scammers to the organization or agency they pretend to represent if you suspect you have become a victim. For more information, visit Information Security.
