Look out for IRS phishing scams this tax season

Tax season text in vintage background

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has warned of ongoing scams. Malicious links in emails or text messages are designed to trick recipients into sharing Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or other personal information that could be used in identity theft or to file fraudulent tax claims.

The IRS will never initiate contact with you via email, text message, or social media with a request for personal or financial data. Do not reply to such emails and independently contact the IRS to confirm any requests made via phone or letter, particularly those that are threatening or demand immediate payment. Consider obtaining an Identity Protection six-digit PIN through the IRS to protect yourself from tax-related identity theft.
