Digital Footprint

close up of fingers typing on laptop keyboard with superimposed online activity icons such as clothing, furniture, gifts, plus social media hearts

Your digital footprint is any tidbits of information you leave about yourself online. Those comments, pictures, and posts on social media form a picture about you. Employers, schools, community, clients, law enforcement, advertisers and even cybercriminals can view your online activity. Search the internet to see what information about you is publicly available. Delete email, shopping and social media accounts you don’t use anymore. And adjust your privacy settings on accounts you do use. Make sure positive personal and professional wins are also a part of your online footprint.

Your digital footprint matters and can affect many areas of your life.

  • Damaged reputation
  • Vulnerable to targeted phishing
  • Blackmail or embarrassment
  • Potential for fraud loss or data breach
  • Employment loss
