How to Apply
Visiting Sub-Internships
Each year, the Department of Urology at UT Southwestern offers several opportunities for fourth-year medical students attending other medical schools to enroll in a 4-week sub-internship in urology.
During the elective, students will be integral members of a team participating in the comprehensive subspecialty care of urology patients. Activities will include morning and evening rounds, scrubbing for and participating in all sub-disciplines of urologic surgery, and evaluating patients in outpatient clinics. Direct supervision will be provided at all times and students will have ample opportunities to demonstrate their interest and knowledge of urology. There will be no overnight call for students.
Clinical activities during the rotation will be equally split between the following practice locations:
- Clements University Hospital
- Parkland Memorial Hospital
- Children’s Medical Center Dallas
During the latter half of their rotation, students will be invited to deliver a 15-minute presentation on a topic of their choosing to our entire clinical department at one of our weekly Grand Rounds meetings.
Interested students should apply through the AAMC VSLO website
Application deadline for class of 2025 graduates was April 15, 2024.

Residency Application
The Department of Urology residency program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and applications must be submitted through ERAS.
Every application is holistically reviewed by a diverse panel of urology faculty. While we do not employ any arbitrary cut-offs to limit the application review process, every application must include:
- A completed ERAS application
- Three letters of recommendation
- USMLE transcript
- Official medical school transcript
- A personal statement
An application is considered complete only when all of the above items are available for viewing online through ERAS. Please do not mail or email additional materials.
2024 Interview Season
The Department of Urology will conduct 2024 interviews in a hybrid format, in-line with updated SAU guidelines.
Getting to Know Us
We want interviewees to have a complete overview of UT Southwestern Medical Center and the Department of Urology residency program so you can make an informed decision when preparing your rank list for the match.
We know that to get a full appreciation of our program, interviewees must have some time to meet the faculty and mingle with the residents. It is a priority of ours that you have abundant time to do so, both in formal and informal environments, during the course of the interview experience.
