The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Deborah Farr, M.D., has been promoted to the position of section head for breast and soft tissue surgery within the Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Farr will also lead the Center for Breast Care that is part of the Simmons Cancer Center.

“We are incredibly excited about the transition of leadership of the section from Dr. Marilyn Leitch to Dr. Debb Farr,” said Adam Yopp, M.D., chief of surgical oncology and colorectal surgery. “Dr. Leitch has served with great aplomb and we look forward to her continuing to be a valued member of the breast surgery group. Dr. Farr is an innovative breast surgeon and natural leader, and we look forward to her building upon the legacy of Dr. Leitch and taking the section to the next level.”

Dr. Farr’s duties will include serving as the co-head of the disease-oriented team for breast cancer at the Simmons Cancer Center, a role that she will share with a medical oncologist who will be selected in the future.

Before joining our department in 2015, Dr. Farr completed a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Northwestern University. She is a graduate of the medical school at Michigan State and performed a surgical residency at Southern Illinois University.

We are very gratified to have someone with Dr. Farr’s skill and experience accept the role of section head. The department wishes Dr. Farr success in her new position.
