This winter, UT Southwestern Medical Center is coming to the North Texas suburb of Frisco. The facility is a partnership with Texas Health Resources, and the two health care giants are bringing expert care to the fastest growing city in the United States.

The 120,000 square-foot UT Southwestern outpatient facility and 73-bed Texas Health Hospital Frisco will open in December. Medical specialties at the new location include orthopedics and sports medicine, dermatology, neurology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, general surgery, spine, urology, and pediatric care. The outpatient facility will open on December 3, and the hospital will open on December 16.

The Department of Surgery is bringing four surgical specialties to this new location: bariatric surgery, colorectal surgery, endocrine surgery, and vascular surgery. Benjamin Schneider, M.D., and Carla Holcomb, M.D., will provide bariatric services; Abier Abdelnaby, M.D., will provide colorectal services; Ana Islam, M.D., will provide endocrine services; and Melissa Kirkwood, M.D., Carlos Timaran, M.D., Fatemeh Malekpour, M.D., and Michael Siah, M.D., will rotate to provide vascular services. All surgical clinics will include at least one advanced practice provider as well.

In 2018, the U.S. Census Bureau released data that identified Frisco as the fastest growing big city in the nation, adding an average of 37 new residents each day for an annual population increase of 8.2 percent. This makes the opening of UT Southwestern Frisco a significant addition to the clinical footprint of the institution and the Department of Surgery.
