CORT: The Center for Organogenesis Research and Trauma

research

What is “CORT”?

CORT is an exciting new initiative from the Department of Surgery that is headed by Drs. Levi, Carlson, and Dellinger. It will establish the premier basic science/translational research program in the world for the study of organogenesis and response to trauma. CORT will unite diverse members of the UT Southwestern community, including trainees, scientists, clinical faculty, and staff, around a single goal of improving the lives of people who have suffered traumatic injuries.

Why is the Department of Surgery launching CORT?

Nobody can study response to trauma like a surgery department, and we want to lead the way! Science thrives in a collaborative culture with strong peer mentorship networks that challenge ideas, share experience, provide inspiration, and open the doors to resources. Establishing CORT will create many opportunities.

CORT will

  • Bring surgeon-scientists together to enhance collaboration
  • Create central resources for basic and translational scientists to prevent redundancy and fragmentation
  • Increase the efficiency of science “business”
  • Create an inspiring and robust training environment
  • Provide professional development for faculty and trainees

What do I need to do to participate in CORT?

Look for announcements from CORT regarding activities you may want to participate in. For more information, you can contact Drs. Levi, Carlson, or Dellinger directly.
