Advanced Trauma Life Support Course

The Need

Injury is the leading cause of mortality in persons less than 40 years of age. Thirty million injuries require medical attention each year and approximately 4 million require hospitalization. As many as 300,000 individuals are permanently disabled each year as a result of trauma. About one-third of the total U.S. health care expenditure is used in the care of this patient population.

Efforts directed at resuscitation and early care of injured patients can decrease morbidity and mortality in these patients. The core curriculum of the ATLS course strives to impart the knowledge and skills necessary to care for injured patients in the early post-injury period.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for physicians who wish to enhance their knowledge of the care of the trauma patient.

Accreditation

After successful completion of the course, physicians will be ATLS verified as set forth by the American College of Surgeons. Candidates receive 19 Category 1 CME credits.
