Vice chair Peshock named inaugural Fellow of AMIA
Dr. Ron Peshock has been selected as an inaugural Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) as part of the organization's Applied Informatics Program. An interdisciplinary advisory group selected the 130 inaugural Fellows from institutions nationwide based on the application of their advanced health informatics skills and knowledge, demonstration of professional achievement and leadership, and their sustained commitment to the betterment of the AMIA.
Dr. Peshock, a Professor of Radiology and Internal Medicine, serves as the Radiology Department's Vice Chair of Informatics and as Chief of Imaging Informatics. In addition to his expertise in imaging informatics, Dr. Peshock is also a primary reader of clinical cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies and CT angiography studies for UT Southwestern University Hospitals and Clinics and Parkland Hospital.
He received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Michigan State University in East Lansing, and then obtained his medical degree from UT Southwestern, where he completed his residency training in internal medicine. He then completed advanced training through fellowship programs in cardiovascular diseases and cardiology research.
Dr. Peshock has been a member of the Radiology faculty since 1982.
While his overall expertise is in heart imaging, he has a particular interest in cardiac MRI, focusing most of his clinical and research efforts in this area. As Imaging Director of the Dallas Heart Study, Dr. Peshock has also mentored a series of researchers who have applied imaging informatics to clinical investigation.
