Faculty, trainees honored at annual graduation and awards celebration
The UT Southwestern Department of Radiology recognized several individuals at its annual Graduation and Awards Celebration on June 15, 2019. The event was held at the Dallas Arboretum, with more than 200 guests in attendance.
Golden Apple Award
The Golden Apple Award is presented for teaching excellence and dedication to instructing trainees in the Radiology Residency program. This year’s recipients were Dr. Julie Champine, who teaches trainees at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dr. David Scott, who teaches residents at Clements University Hospital, and Dr. Cory Pfeifer, who teaches trainees at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.
Radiology Award for Outstanding Mentoring
Dr. Diane Twickler, Vice Chair of Academic Affairs and Professor of Radiology, received the Radiology Award for Outstanding Mentoring in recognition of his extraordinary service to the department’s trainees through mentorship.
RSNA Roentgen Resident/Fellow Research Award
The Roentgen Research Award is presented annually to a trainee with the goal of recognizing a resident or fellow who has demonstrated excellence in research through the presentation of scientific papers at regional or national meetings, the publication of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, the receipt of research grants or contributions to the success of research within the department, as well as other research activities. This year’s recipient, Dr. Michael Collard, will receive advanced training at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston through its fellowship program in Vascular & Interventional Radiology.
Outstanding Senior Resident Award
The Outstanding Senior Resident Award is presented annually to an exceptional member of the graduating residency class who best exemplifies the qualities of those who founded the department, and who serve as a role model patient care, teaching and service. This year’s recipient, Dr. Aleks Sorra, served as Chief Resident during his training. He will remain at UT Southwestern to receive advanced training through a fellowship program in Vascular & Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Twickler holds The Dr. Fred Bonte Professorship in Radiology.
