Overview
The Musculoskeletal Radiology Division at UT Southwestern offers a range of state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging and interventional services. We provide advanced imaging and procedures to diagnose and treat a variety of musculoskeletal and nerve pain conditions. Our radiology specialists have expertise in the imaging of sports-related injuries, arthritis (rheumatology), tumors (sarcoma), trauma, infection (diabetic foot), metal prosthesis and neuromuscular conditions.
Division Chief Avneesh Chhabra, M.D., is one of the world’s leading experts in imaging and interventions of sports conditions, peripheral nerve disorders and sarcoma imaging. Division faculty have received advanced training through fellowship programs in musculoskeletal radiology and actively collaborate with the Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern to bring new techniques to the forefront for improved clinical care.
Mission
Patient Care
Our faculty members collaborate with referring physicians using a coordinated, comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach for diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patients. We constantly strive to bring excellence and uniqueness in quality patient care. The available and routinely employed imaging modalities and techniques include high-resolution MR imaging including multi-parametric sarcoma, multiparametric rheumatology, 3-D joint MRI, musculoskeletal ultrasound, MR neurography and high-end computed tomography imaging including 3-D CT, dual energy CT and spectral CT. The breadth of musculoskeletal interventional techniques includes joint injections; joint aspirations; tendon needling; barbotages; bone, synovial and soft-tissue biopsies; ultrasound- and CT-guided perineural and intramuscular injections; and nerve ablations.
Research
Intellectual vibrancy and technological innovation are core values of the Musculoskeletal Radiology Division. Current topics of clinical research include novel use of 3D joint imaging in sports, MR neurography and related interventions, sarcoma imaging, rheumatology imaging and artificial intelligence approaches in the domains of sarcoma, muscle and bone evaluation.
Education
The Musculoskeletal Radiology Division provides clinical and academic training for residents and fellows in the Department of Radiology. Our one-year Musculoskeletal Radiology Fellowship training program is intended to prepare radiologists for successful careers in either academic or private practice settings, and to become independent subspecialty consultants who can be leaders in the field.
