The Pathology Department performs autopsies for UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) associated hospitals (William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital) and Parkland Hospital. An autopsy is performed to help answer the cause and manner of death as well as advance our understanding of disease.

The post mortem examination is performed by an autopsy pathologist and a UTSW pathology resident. To create the most comprehensive report possible, our expert subspecialty pathologists are consulted as needed for disease specific questions.

Clements Chaplain's office and Parkland Chaplain's office help coordinate with the clinical physicians, family, and funeral home.
