Bike MS: Round-up Ride 2019

2019 Carolyn P. Horchow Women's Health Symposium

 

"Exploring the Ultimate Frontier: Inspired Insights into the Brain" is the focus of the Women's Health Symposium coming up in March at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Some of the featured speakers include Drs. Marc Diamond, Benjamin Greenberg, Elizabeth Maher, and Brendan Kelley.

Dr. Darin Okuda receives award for findings in MS research using 3-D technology

 

Dr. Darin Okuda and his team won Best Abstract Award at the International Congress on Advanced Treatments & Technologies in Multiple Sclerosis held recently in London, where Dr. Okuda presented the team's data. They discovered that 3-D technology can provide crucial information about the lesions that cause MS.

DNA vaccine reduces both toxic proteins linked to Alzheimer’s

 

Drs. Roger Rosenberg and Doris Lambracht-Washington have developed a vaccine that has safely reduced in animal models two proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease. Read more about the promising research that scientists say may pave the way to a clinical trial.

Dr. Trung Nguyen awarded research grant for Alzheimer's study

 

Trung Nguyen, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics, received a Junior Investigator research grant from Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium for his study titled "Tau Strains in the Alzheimer’s Disease – Lewy Body Disease Clinicopathological Spectrum." Dr. Nguyen will collaborate with Charles White, M.D., of Pathology and Marc Diamond, M.D., of the Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases to determine if there are any correlations between pathological strains of tau and clinical manifestation of disease.

Dr. Mehari Gebreyohanns recognized for contributions to Ethiopian community

 

Mehari Gebreyohanns, M.D., was honored for his service to the Ethiopian community, both locally and in his native Ethiopia. He received the Award of Excellence for outstanding community service from the Mutual Assistance Association for the Ethiopian Community in Dallas. Dr. Gebreyohanns provides stroke education in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and founded the BORNE initiative which provides stroke education, training, and resources for healthcare workers in Ethiopia.

2018 International Neuroscience Nursing Research Symposium

 

Our Neuroscience Nursing Research Center will hold its second annual research symposium in Dallas on Saturday, August 11. The event will focus on innovative aspects of neuroscience nursing research by addressing recent literature, methodology, results, and clinical implications of clinical nursing research trials.

2018 Kids & Pros Youth Football Clinic

 

The nonprofit program Kids & Pros will offer a free Youth Football Clinic at SMU’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium on July 28. This event is presented by the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma and sponsored by UT Southwestern O’Donnell Brain Institute. Current and former NFL players will be on hand to incorporate safe tackling techniques and position fundamentals training, along with character-based lessons. The event also offers didactic and hands-on simulation components and is approved for 4 hours of Continuing Education Credit.

Dr. Juan Pascual promoted to Professor

 

Juan Pascual, M.D., Ph.D., has been promoted to Professor of Neurology and Neurotherapeutics. Dr. Pascual has secondary appointments in Pediatrics, Physiology and the Eugene McDermott Center for Human Growth and Development. His clinical and research focus is on rare brain diseases in children.

Dr. Mark Goldberg to moderate SOLUNA International Music & Arts event

 

The Dallas Symphony Association and the O'Donnell Brain Institute will host the 4th annual "Music and the Brain," part of the SOLUNA International Music & Arts Festival in May. World-renowned brain scientists and clinicians will discuss music and art’s incredible power to shape young minds and influence early childhood learning.
