Patel, Glazer Named Hospital Medicine Section Chiefs

Dr. Vivek Patel, a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine, has been named Chief of Hospital Medicine at Parkland Health, and Dr. Craig Glazer, a Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, has been named interim Chief of Hospital Medicine at Clements University Hospital and Texas Health Frisco.

Physicians in the Division of Hospital Medicine specialize in high-quality and efficient care of patients requiring inpatient medical care. In addition to managing busy inpatient general medical services, they also help staff the medical consult and perioperative assessment services at each site. Working in close collaboration, the team of hospitalists and other healthcare providers provide round-the-clock, in-house, bedside care to patients throughout their hospital stay.

Dr. Patel has held progressive leadership responsibilities since joining the UT Southwestern faculty in 2010. Since 2015, he has been the Medical Director of Hospital Medicine at Parkland, and in 2018, he was appointed Chair of the Parkland Peer Oversight Committee. Dr. Patel succeeds Eugene Chu, M.D., who served as Chief from 2017 before departing for the University of Iowa.

Originally from Norristown, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel holds a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station. He earned his medical degree and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern Medical Center. At Parkland, Dr. Patel serves as Chair of the Peer Review Oversight Committee.

Dr. Patel joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2010.

Dr. Glazer joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2002. Since 2020, he has served as Associate Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of University Hospitals. He succeeds Jonathan Weisler, M.D., who served as Interim Chief for 12 years before stepping down from the position in September.

Dr. Glazer received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He performed his residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern and completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. In addition, he was a resident in Occupational and Environmental Medicine at National Jewish Medical and Research Center.

Dr. Glazer joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2002.
