Transplant Nephrology Fellowship

The transplant nephrology fellowship program at UT Southwestern is accredited by the American Society of Transplantation. It is a one-year training experience for candidates who are board-eligible or certified in nephrology starting July 1. We accept fellowship applications September through January. Foreign medical graduates must be ECFMG-certified and eligible for J1 visa sponsorship. Fellows receive a PGY-6 salary and benefits package along with an allowance for books, travel, and expenses for attendance at the American Transplant Congress meeting. Qualified applicants should submit a CV, personal statement, and three letters of reference.

We have vibrant organ transplantation programs in kidney, heart, lung, liver, and bone marrow transplantation. Seven dedicated transplant nephrologists make up our program faculty. The fellow will gain experience in the evaluation and management of living kidney donors and kidney transplant recipients and their complications. He/she will understand principles of candidate selection for renal transplantation, including combined organ transplants.

The fellow will attend post-transplant clinic three times a week. Organ procurement opportunities will be provided. Training in transplant immunology, transplant pathology, renal imaging and biopsy, as well as infectious diseases is also emphasized in the program. Lastly, the fellow will have protected time to engage in scholarly activity. At the end of training, the fellow will be eligible to apply for UNOS certification.
