Medical Education Clinical Track
The Medical Education Clinical Track is designed to provide focused experiences in medical education for fellows who desire a career in an academic medical setting, providing a combination of clinical care and medical education with students, residents, and/or fellows. Upon entry into the track, fellows are assigned a faculty mentor and directed towards clinical education opportunities, curriculum development, leadership training, in addition to scholarly work.
Objectives
The curriculum aims to promote excellence in the following areas:
- Developing curricula
- Creating educational material for learners of all levels
- Evaluating clinical proficiency and knowledge of learners and providing feedback
- Applying the latest education technology and innovation
- Facilitating small-group discussions
- Strategizing leadership improvement
Available Activities
- Assist with curriculum and lecture schedules during weekly General ID and HIV conferences
- Assist with weekly internal medicine ID board review lectures
- Directed readings in medical education and adult learning theory
- Small group teaching with MS1/2 microbiology course
- Opportunities to develop “ID chalk talk” scripts for teaching on rounds
- Assist with Medical Student Colleges teaching with ID faculty preceptors
- Attend ID Week Med Ed COP activities and sessions
Resources
Fellows can take advantage of UTSW/Parkland/VA’s extensive resources in medical education. Weekly HIV and General ID didactic series given by faculty. A faculty research mentor will be identified, and fellows are strongly encouraged to conduct clinical or translational research and disseminate this work at a regional or national ID/medical education meetings.
