Advanced Practice Provider Postgraduate Certificate Program
One-year postgraduate program for licensed and certified nurse practitioners and physician assistants
The UT Southwestern Emergency Medicine Advanced Practice Provider Postgraduate Certificate Program is under the direction of Prayag Mehta, M.D., and Sophia Vu, MPAS PA-C. Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are educated in acute care and emergency medicine principles.
Our graduates are well-prepared to work in an emergency department, and they are highly marketable as the need for these specialty-trained practitioners increases.
Program Resources
The APP postgraduates will work primarily in the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital Emergency Department, where they will take medical histories, perform physical examinations and specified procedures, and develop patient treatment plans in collaboration with the attending physician and other APPs. Clements University Hospital offers:
- A comprehensive cancer center
- Active transplant program
- Advanced heart failure program
The Clements University Hospital Emergency Department has a patient volume of about 50,000 patients with an admission rate that nears 35 percent.
APP postgraduates will also work at Parkland Memorial emergency department and urgent care as well as Children’s Medical Center Dallas emergency departments. The EDs at each of these two clinical sites are some of the highest-volume emergency treatment facilities in the country. Each triages over 110,000 patients annually. Parkland is a level 1 trauma center and burn center. Children’s Medical Center is a pediatric tertiary care referral center and the one of three level 1 pediatric trauma centers in the Southwest.
