Residency Program
Welcome from Program Leadership
Department Chair
Residency Program Director
The UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management Residency Program aims to develop a diverse group of residents into respected consultants and board certified anesthesiologists, who will go on to continue their training in an anesthesiology subspecialty, develop into an academician, or care for patients in private practice through the guidance and mentorship of our academic faculty. We strive for excellence in clinical care, lifelong learning through scholarly activity and research, quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, medical education and simulation, global health initiatives, and personal wellness and resilience.
Our diverse and accomplished faculty of nearly 200 spans several well-respected hospitals to offer the breadth and depth of anesthesia training as represented by all the ACGME-accredited fellowship programs and then some! Our clinical education combined with a thoughtful didactic curriculum, state-of-the art simulation training, and longitudinal experiences in Point-of-Care-Ultrasound (POCUS), Quality Improvement, and Research allows for the development of the next generation of anesthesiology leaders.
Our expansive, world-renowned health system is in one of the largest and fastest-growing cities in the United States that offers a reasonable cost and quality of living, an engaging environment for any stage of life, and the hospitality of the south. Two major, international airports make travel to and from Dallas incredibly easy and convenient!
We hope that you enjoy your visit, whether virtual or in person. We look forward to sharing our pride in the Department and Residency Program with you!

We are proud to be members of this historied department, and we as residents share deeply in its vision to strive for excellence in perioperative medicine, clinical research, and patient care. Here at UTSW, we believe we have the strongest training program in the country. A familial culture and diverse group of residents with different backgrounds, interests, and aspirations are what makes us special. Our faculty are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of anesthesia while also pushing us to grow outside our comfort zone. We train in a variety of hospitals all located here in Dallas, with exposure to county, academic, and private practice environments, making us adaptable and resilient. Our graduates also benefit from a vast alumni network always willing to partner with residents in achieving their career aspirations. All of this together results in our residents routinely matching into their top choice jobs and top fellowship programs across the country. Even with these endless opportunities, many of our residents choose to simply stay on as faculty and fellows, a sign of the fabulous training and culture we have created here. Overall, whatever your ultimate career path is in anesthesiology, our goal is to help you get there by helping you become the most clinically competent, confident, and well-rounded anesthesiologist you can be. We are so excited to have you apply and hope you decide to join our UTSW family!
